Affirmation of Life

This tapestry was woven on the occasion of the bar mitzvah of Shoshana and Ted's son, Joel. The Ten Commandments appear at the top, but in a jagged shape, to convey that all life includes times of pain, loss, and suffering. The Hebrew letters comprise the Priestly Blessing and affirmation of life, May the Lord Bless You and Protect You, bestowed on the young person marking the bar mitzvah milestone. He is draped in a ta/lit (prayer shawl) to signify this protection.

After completing this piece, Shoshana closed her loom and never wove again. The tapestries released her from her trauma, enabling her to pursue her education to become a psychotherapist and help others.
