An Ideal World

In terms of technique, the second tapestry is very different from the first. As if fearing she was too open in her first tapestry, Shoshana worked the second one in a tight weave. This technique required designing the pattern first, before executing the woven piece. The tapestry depicts a sense of order, representing a manageable world Shoshana wished existed rather than the one she actually experienced. The side panels frame a densely woven world in the center, as if on the verge of exploding. That explosion is conveyed in the next tapestry.

The strings flowing from the bottom of this tapestry were described by Shoshana as tzitzit (knotted ritual fringes attached to the corners of a ta/lit, a Jewish prayer shawl).
