War

The large "V" at the top of this tapestry represents an airplane dropping bombs on a field of flowers whose petals are tilted in sadness. This depiction represents the actual event when the family fled from a train and lay together in a field of flowers as German planes were bombing and shooting from above.

At the base lies a fallen child with a broken right arm and a flower growing out of its left hand. While creating this tapestry, Shoshana's right arm became temporarily paralyzed. With psychotherapy, she discovered that the process of weaving was revealing memories so painful that she self-paralyzed her arm to prevent herself from continuing. With that insight, her arm returned to normal.
